You want to keep them slowed grouped and ready to die. The reason I believe aoe is the most effective way to level is ultimately you can only kill 3-4 guys in a row then you need to mana so if I can only kill 3 with single target spells but I can kill 5+ with aoe it becomes a more effective use of your time and mana.Įdit: shatter is great for single target not so great for aoe because it causes the guys to ungroup when they get frozen.

You should be able to do 2 full blizzards before they get to you then just nova and repeat. Then strafe run max blizzard range and begin blizzard. After you pull them you can nova as soon as they are gathered in a nice pack. Usually when I did this I would use rank 1 fireball to pull a few monsters from a distance to a group of 2-3 giving you 4-6 peasants to kill. While aoe can be hard at first it’s really the fastest way to level. A good place to practice aoe pulls if horde is hillsbrad peasants. You are one level from where aoe becomes more viable also if you spec into imp blizzard your blizzard gets a chill effect slowing the pack of monsters. I found frost to be the best spec for survivability along with aoe. Leveling is insanely fun and you don't even have to do quests (i went from 25-60 without doing a single quest) because you'll be able to make WAY more xp by just farming mobs. Eventually you'll be able to pull 10-20 and then you'll really be in it.
The magic number is when you start pulling 5-6 mobs and you are now pulling in more xp than you could just doing single mob pulls. 3, 4, and so on until you reach a number you feel comfortable with. Pull 1 mob and down it with only aoe talents.
There's nothing like rounding up 20 mobs and blasting them all down. AOE leveling is also way more fun than leveling fire. Not only will you be able to use this skill to make money at L60 (50gph zf gold farm) but you will also cut your mage's leveling time down by half.
